Dear Mother,
It has been snowing here off and on all day but there is no snow outside yet, but if we have good luck we will get home soon. Well I will say once again that you are not writing. It has been two months that I have heard from you. I got the box you sent Xmas day but no letters at all. I got a letter from Kate and Gilbert today but I do not think that you are writing. I do not know what you think of the war being over but I hope I hear from you soon. What in hell is Will doing away? Don’t you make him do what is right? Put him jail for two or three months and then he will come to time.

If he can work down there he sure can do the same in DeKalb. I would give a leg if he was over here about three months ago. I bet he would go back and do what is right for a year or two. Anyhow what is Floyd doing doing now? It is too bad if you don’t get two or three months of drilling. That will do him more good than anything I know of and Alfred is an M.P. The doughboys do not like the M.P. because they do not have to fight but still they say they are soldiers. The people killed and pig today. The Kaiser did get half of it but now the Kaiser is no more so he gets no pig so the Kaiser is getting his pig in Holland now not in Germany. They are going to have a vote here soon and then we will know how we will get the pig. Ha, Ha.

I don’t look to be home until four months after peace is signed. That will be long enough for me. I would like to be here so I could go in with Pa before that but if I can’t get there I can’t. That is all there is to it. I hope they keep me as long as they want me so there will not be a war for a year or so. I have seen a lot and know more then I did a year ago but I would live just as long if I didn’t know what I do but gold cannot buy my last year’s experience, so that is what I think of it. I do not know what to do. They say all of the soldiers that are here can stay here and work for the U.S. I can’t see anything big back there. That is, if it is so about this they are going to pay $150 to $200 per month.

But if I do not get back until July this year that will be too late to work with Pa. You know that if I could get there about April that would be O.K. but I do not know what to do. What do you think of it? Let me know. Well I have got a lot of time to think it over. I can get sick of it if in two days if they started shooting again. Well I hope this finds you all well, and stay that way.
