“Organizing your Digital Genealogy Files”

This presentation was about digital preservation for genealogists. I talked about how digital archiving is different than backing up your digital files, and the essential steps for digital archiving. My blog series on this topic can be found here!

“Getting Started with Blogging for Family History”

October 2018 – DeKalb County Genealogical-Historical Society, Sycamore, IL

I hosted an informal Q&A about blogging for family history. During this conversation I talked about why people start family history blogs, setting up your website, writing blog posts, and privacy concerns. I also gave a tour of my own WordPress blog, and shared my own experiences of blogging and writing.

“Sharing the Stories of Your Ancestors”

June 2018 – Wilmette Public Library, Wilmette, IL

img_0444I shared a presentation about Storytelling in Family History at the Wilmette Public Library in June. This presentation gave an overview of various options for sharing family stories, provided many examples of storytelling projects, and shared the basics of storytelling structures. Topics included recording oral histories, live storytelling, family history writing, blogging, photo books, family heritage cookbooks, social media, and more. As a librarian, I also provided a handout with many additional resources available at the library. See the blog series on this topic here.
