On Active Service with the American Expeditionary Force
Sept 12, 1918
Dear Sister,
The last letter I got from you I was up in the lines and was glad to get to hear form someone from home at that time. I got a letter from Ma and Floyd. They didn’t have very much to say, only Floyd thinks he will have to come over here. Well to war will not last that long and if it did I want him to join the Navy, where there is no hiking and always have a bed to sleep in. Don’t you you think it is the best kind? Let them know about that out there will you? Well by this time Alf is a soldier and I know he like it and he can’t get here soon enough but tell him not start before he lives.

We are in a town sleeping in houses for the first time two months. It sure does go fine. I forgot what you said in your last letter. I lost it up at the front but I think you said you was going see about sending those things I wanted. Let it go, I have everything I wanted now but if you have sent them don’t think you have thrown anything away. Well I hope that you all are well and hope that I hear from you soon.
